As part of The Traveling Board's mission to bring people together through their love of food, we will be sharing the stories of food bloggers alike to find out what food, family & friends means to them. We had the pleasure of virtually interviewing Kate from Wood and Spoon, to find out what about food brings her so much joy. Read below for more quote worthy knowledge!
Q: What about food brings you so much joy? Is it gatherings with family & friends, storying telling around the dinner table, tasting new food while traveling? In a few sentences, you tell me…..
A: Food is one of my favorite ways to love people. Whether it be inviting people into my home for a shared meal, dropping off goodies to a friend, or baking up a cake to celebrate someone’s birthday, food is an extremely effective way to show people that they matter to you. Most of my favorite life moments were created while circling a table with people that I love, and the goodness that I find there is worth all of the time and effort spent in the kitchen to create that magic. For me, food is a source of enjoyment in and of itself, but the very best part is the faces you get to share it with. It sounds cheesy, but that’s the truth.
Q: What inspires you and why?
A: People always say that you eat first with your eyes, and I think that’s the truth. Beautiful, delicious food makes me want to create something myself. I love the chance at making something that looks as good as it tastes, and that’s usually one of my primary goals when I get in the kitchen to bake. The textures and colors and shapes of food is almost art-like at times, and I find that really inspiring.
Q: What is your favorite cuisine and why?
A: Oh man, give me Thai every day of the week. I love the balance of sweet, heat, salt, and sour. It makes me hungry just thinking about it!
Q: Who has inspired you most in life?
A: The fact that I can’t pinpoint one person should tell you a lot about the beautiful people I get to know. I have a handful of women in my life that love people so well, and they just ooze with wisdom and joy. Seeing the warmth and depth and kindness in others makes me want to be the best version of myself, and I’ve been hugely blessed to know people like this all of my life.
Q: What is your favorite quote?
A: Blossom where you’re planted. It means just grow and learn to thrive no matter where you are.
Q: Do you have any advice that you’d like to pass along to other entrepreneurial minded individuals about how you achieved your own personal success?
A: Don’t let fear dictate your actions. I spent a lot of time playing it safe because I was afraid of failure and what other people would think of me. On the other side of that fear was a ton of joy, because I was finally doing something that I loved. While it’s healthy to think through your decisions and career path, it’s never ok to sideline yourself just because of fear. Surround yourself with people who will lovingly speak truth into your life, and be willing to bet on yourself and your ambitions.
